Lot many news these days, don't you think so? Well about India and about Indians of course. Adithi Devo Bhava was our mantra which we followed religiously and where is that now? I am afraid when the next generation takes over, this mantra will not be anywhere in sight.
Earlier the Adithis were non-Indians and what is the situation now? Each statesman is an Adithi in a different state. So what is the plight of the foreigners in our country going to be, god help us! If in case they make a mistake of going for a party, which as per their custom is no fault, they are scrutinized and attacked for immoral behavior. Can't complain, can we? When the attackers do not look if you are an Indian or Non-Indian.
Why are the youngsters attacked stating immoral behavor if they stay in homestays or go to pubs or travel with boyfriend/girlfriend? If you ask me if that is wrong/right; I have answer yes; but my answer can be debated upon, definitely, after all Indian constitution provides you the right to speech.
What defines right and wrong?
If we become adamant and say that you have to stick on to that rules imposed on by the earlier patriarchal conservative society to a child growing up seeing the outside world, can he/she digest all those? When I have an option to choose what I should do with my life, I may not follow exactly what my parents say and so how will it be right if I force someone to stick on to the rules? Don't the mangalore attackers have kids? I wonder how they are bringing up their kids. How would they be defining what is right and wrong? If they teach the kids that attacking someone in name of Hindu culture is right, imagine the horror we have to witness when they grow up.
How can attacking someone be right anyway? Isn't that ripping off his/her right to live his life the way he/she likes. That is a big violation of the values India is build on.We were taught to be proud of the unity in diversity of India. Now I am not sure whether I am really proud of the diversity. All I can say is that I am scared of what the future holds for us Indians when each state fights with another state and feels that they are superior to the other in someway or the other. Like oil to the fire, we have some new imports like IPL. Funny to think that now may be a war with another country might bring back our lost unity.
